Outreach Program

Outreach Program Meets a Community Need
Misericordia’s Outreach Program is dedicated to providing support and activities to children and teens who are living at home with their families.  This program has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2008 as we have expanded services to those in the surrounding Chicagoland community.

Tina's Playgroup, an interactive playgroup for children with special needs aged 0-7 and their families. Group play meetings are held once a month, on Saturdays, at the Gleason Grace Center on Misericordia’s campus.  It is easily accessible by public and private transportation and parking is free. Children and their families are welcome to participate anytime between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.  The Playgroup is open to all levels of ability, and participants are not required to attend every meeting. There is a wide variety of toys that focus on development and fun. Students from Loyola University are on hand to assist with crafts and games.  All children with special needs between the ages of 0-7 and their families are welcome!  Click here for a brochure

The Tween Group, a program for children with special needs aged 8-18, provides social and educational outings that focus on group interactions, making friends and having fun!  Events are held throughout the year so check the calendar!  Sunday afternoon basketball is available in the gym from 12:00 - 1:15pm.

Summer Camp offers classes related to art, technology and fitness, for individuals with developmental disabilities between the ages of 10 and 18 who live in the community and are part of the Outreach Group.  Our summer camp was once again filled to capacity as it offered recreation and fun for the children and respite for the families.

Adult Outreach Enrichment Day Program For young adults ages 22-30, focusing on continuing education, vocational readiness, recreation and socialization with peers.  Click here for more information.

Not just for the kids!  We also provide support to our parents by offering speakers regarding behavior and Individualized Education Program (IEP) preparation. Speakers this year will include Ed McManus, Accessing the Developmental Disabilities Systems in Illinois and members of Misericordia Social Services, preparing your child for a successful transition from home to residential life. We also have social events for the parents to network and build relationships. Misericordia offers a variety of additional services including respite and day programming.
